When The Ring movie hit the theaters in 2002, it set a new benchmark in the genre of horror movies. People still talk about this classy horror flick. The horror effects and storyline were so well balanced in The Ring. Though it was an adaption of a Japanese horror movie, it didn’t fail to impress the fans. The success of the movie led the makers to make the sequel and The Ring Two hit the cinemas in 2005.
Now after 12 years, the franchise has found its way back with the director F. Javier Gutiérrez. The fans have high expectations from the movie but as per the reviews, it’s not as good as the first two movies. Let’s see what went wrong with Rings.
Review: A Lot of things have changed in Rings and it is a disappointing sequel that neither entertains you nor scares. The Rings starts in a modern day when two people watch the cursed videotape of Samara. A girl named Julia is looking for her boyfriend who is missing, and while she is looking for him, she finds some weird segment of students watching the tape for fun. She eventually ends up watching the tape and the storyline goes the same way it was shot in The Ring. When a sequel is delayed for a decade it always misses the plot and often they are made for the sake of making a sequel.
This unnecessary attempts more of the same ideology quickly proves to be boring, with the dull characters and no genuine scares. Rings adds nothing good to the franchise. It’s packed with cliches and dull college characters. The plot is exactly the same as previous movies of this franchise.
Verdict: Rings is only for die hard fans. it’s an unnecessary sequel that has nothing good to loo forward to. It plays like an episode of Scooby-Doo. It’s very strange and irrelevant. There are signs of some great twists and surprises but after the characters watch the videotape, all the excitements and twists die. It’s neither scary nor an enjoyable horror movie.
